Our illustrious founder was first
enamored of the idea of homebrewing beer following a long chat with the
father of one of his wife's friends, who had been a homebrewer for
years. After months of research and a cash windfall from an
unexpectedly successful garage sale, Caduceus Brewing was founded.
A five gallon batch was brewed in the kitchen and fermented in
the closet of a small apartment in Federal Heights, CO; it was enjoyed
by all. Alas, the apartment lease expired and the brewery
relocated to Fort Lupton, CO. A new recipe was formulated for a
friend's wedding, brewed in the kitchen and fermented under the
basement stairs; it again was enjoyed by all. The quest for
gainful employment and further education forced our founder's return
east to Michigan.
Our Brewery
As it stands today, our beers are
brewed on a stove top in a 5 gallon capacity stainless steel brewpot,
preventing
full-volume boils. However, an 8-10 gallon brewpot and outdoor
propane burner are on
the list of needs and wanted upgrades. Our beers are cooled to
pitching temperature via a counterflow wort chiller. We have two
6.5 gallon
glass carboy primary fermenters; however, one is still located at our
former Fort Lupton, CO facility. We also have a single 5 gallon
glass carboy secondary fermenter. Several 1/2 gallon growlers are
available for yeast starters and yeast propagation. Packaging is
currently accomplished via a bottling bucket with a stopcock and
bottling wand. Bottles are capped by hand with a lever-action
bench capper. Upgrades are coming as time and money allow.
